Inform yourself about our studio and the requirements (see FAQs). You can always pass by, call or e-mail us for further questions.

You have to apply to one studio – this means your application is not valid to Studio Greg Lynn or Studio Kazuyo Sejima at the same time. Please feel free to re-apply at the second date if your application was not successful.

Prepare a portfolio and collect your documents. The portfolio should include your previous work and a biography with previous studies and professional activity, including all relevant diplomas, if necessary in certified translation.

If you live outside the European Union, please check the visa requirements in order to make sure you can start your studies in time. Since there are 2 applicaton dates, we recommend to apply at the earlier date (February) in order to solve any visa issues until the start of the study year which is October

Submission of a portfolio
Portfolio can be sent digitally, max. 20MB .

The portfolio should include a CV + photo; a letter of intent; a selection of academic and professional work and reference letters (max. 3 / not obligatory). In case of a Bachelor's Degree in a related field, the portfolio has to include an official transcript of studies in addition.

When are the dates for the entrance examination?
Please check „Dates and Deadlines" – this site will be updated on a regular basis.
What qualifications do I need to apply?
Each admission at the University depends on the artistic talent of the candidate as evidenced by the production of own work samples and by passing an entrance examination. The admission is decided by a jury.

Requirement for approval is a bachelor (BA) in architecture or related fields.

Do I have to submit any work samples?
Yes, all applicants have to submit a portfolio with samples of their work.
How much are the study fees?

Do I need to speak German in order to study architecture at the Angewandte?
Studio_Hani Rashid and most of the supplementary courses are taught in English. German language knowledge is not necessary in order to study at our studio.
Which studies are offered by the Institute of Architecture?
The architectural study is offered only as a Master program since winter term 2011/12. The master program takes 3 years (6 semester), has 180 ECTS points and finishs with a Master of Architecture (MArch).

The Institute of Architecture also offers a postgraduate program which takes 3 semester and finishes with a MSc. More information under www.urbanstrategies.at.
I will finish my Bachelor Degree in Summer. Can I already apply in February?
Yes, you need to have your Bachelor degree when you start to study at the Angewandte. If you are in your last year of studies and finish the same year, you can already apply in February as long as you have your degree latest by October.
What should be included in the portfolio?
All applicants should include in their portfolios any works in any media that exhibit:

Your skills and motivation in any cultural/design field.

  1. Critical insight and intelligence about design (entwurf) in general.
  2. Facility and expertise in any media including architectural design, graphic design, photography, industrial design, printmaking, drawing, painting, sculpture, etc...
  3. Abilities for original and creative expression.
  4. The present development of your own cultural work.
All works that have been created under supervision or in a team need to have correct credits for schools, teachers or team members. A portfolio should not only consist of teamwork products. Please include a detailed CV and a photograph with the portfolio.

Do I have to send the application electronically or via regular mail?
Studio Hani Rashid prefers online applications.
Are there standards for the portfolio?
All applications should include in their portfolios any works in any media that demonstrate your skills and motivation in any cultural/design field. The portfolio should be sent digitally with a max. ob 20 MB. You can include all different media, but please understand that in the process of an entry exam not all different medias can be assessed.
How extensive shall a portfolio be?
That depends on your own decision. Make sure that you communicate a clear picture of your own skills, interests and motivation with your portfolio. It should not be less than 10 works but also not exceed 30 works.
How many students will be accepted?
We accept all students that meet or exceed our level of qualification. There is no minimum or maximum amount of students.
